Creating Something from Little Bits of Nothing
alchemy with japanese stationery and construction paper
If you’ve ever visited Japan, you know trash cans are lowkey like unicorns out in the wild. A lot of times you’re carrying your trash with you until you can find a bin to dispose of things.
But as a nostalgia obsessed, creative individual with a serious crafting and journaling habit, I often found myself holding onto papers to eventually throw away, but also intentionally collecting small tickets and papers to later collage with.
During our 14 day trip to Japan, I collected receipts, stationery from stores, tickets from events and exhibitions, tiny papers from gachapon treats, random catalogues and magazines, literally any and everything. These little bits of nothing, temporary ephemera that’s meant to exist for only a little while, transformed into a colorful collage of memories.
This zine is a compilation of collages created from books, stationery and random ephemera collected during my explorations of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.
